11:30 AM @ Stirling A

Abstract:

This talk will briefly outline basic laser concepts and will introduce you to the field of ultrafast diode-pumped solid-state laser oscillators. Such ultrashort pulse lasers have found widespread applications in science and industry. Details of past and present development trends will be presented along with the current progress in our laboratory on design and characterization of high-power diode-pumped femtosecond Yb:KGW lasers. Future applications of these lasers in imaging of biological samples will also be discussed.

Dr. Major is a short-listed candidate for the recently-advertised Assistant Professorship in Engineering Physics.

Refreshments will be available after the talk.
