General Fusion: Exploring a Faster Path to Fusion

Michael Delage
VP Business Development, General Fusion

Friday, September 14, 2012
1:30 PM @ Stirling A

Abstract:

General Fusion is developing Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF), a hybrid approach to fusion in which a self-organized plasma is compressed with the inertia of a conductive liner to thermonuclear conditions. In this talk, Michael Delage (VP Business Development and a Queen's Engineering Physics alumnus) will provide an overview of the company and the science behind MTF. He will describe the ongoing research at General Fusion to design, test, and demonstrate the ability to produce energy using its acoustic MYF technology. He will also discuss the rare nature of General Fusion as a privately-funded fusion company with a commercial mandate, and the challenges of using cutting-edge science to pursue technology that could transform the biggest industry in the world.

Refreshments will be available before the talk.
