Modelling the Terahertz Response of Nanostructures

Abstract:

The recent development of intense coherent sources of electromagnetic radiation with frequencies of a few terahertz has opened up new ways to examine and nonlinearly drive electron dynamics in a variety solid state systems. Over the past number of years, we have developed theoretical models of the ultrafast optical and terahertz response of electrons in a variety of nanostructures. In this talk, I will discuss our approach as applied to the nonlinear terahertz response of electrons in GaAs quantum wells, CdSe nanorods and mono-layer graphene. Where possible, I will make connections to recent experimental results.
