A new look at "Spooky Action at a Distance"

Abstract:

Einstein was provoked to express his deep dissatisfaction with "spooky actions at a distance" when describing the consequences of two-particle entanglement, which is often said to be the central non-classical feature of quantum theory. Remarkably little is known about the nature of multi-particle entanglement beyond the specific facts of the Schmidt expansion of two-particle wave functions. However, this is enough to produce some startling results discovered recently. We will present some of these, including photon bound states in free space that arise from spooky action at a distance, and a related quantum "memory force" that generalizes the exchange force of Pauli.
