A Self-Consistent Model of a Semiconductor Laser

Abstract:

This presentation reports on the development of a self-consistent semiconductor laser model. Wigner functions are used for modelling the carrier dynamics and the effect of the boundary conditions while Green's functions are used for interband polarizations and to derive an expression for the optical susceptibility. We discuss the motivation behind the model's development, summarize its theory, and provide an example where it is used to derive a nonequilibrium correction term to a standard susceptibility equation of a quantum well laser.
