Theory of Molecular Electronics

Abstract:

Significant progress has been achieved in quantum transport measurements of molecular scale nanoelectronic devices. These systems represent perhaps the ultimate size limit of functional systems. In this talk, I will review some general status and important problems of molecular electronics, and discuss first principles theoretical techniques which are in use for analyzing quantum transport properties at molecular scale. Specific examples of charge/spin transport in various molecular devices will be presented, transport physics discussed, quantitative comparison between theory and experimental data will also be made.
