POLS Alumni to Receive Awards

Two former students of the Political Studies Department have been honoured by the Queen’s University Alumni Association.

Peter Milliken (Arts ’68) will receive the Alumni Achievement Award on Saturday, October 15th at the Gala Awards Dinner in Kingston. The event will be held in Grant Hall as a part of the 2011 Alumni Volunteer Summit, presented by the QUAA.

Peter is receiving the award for his inspirational dedication to Canadian public service. As the longest serving Speaker of the House in the nation’s history, he has set an inspiring example for younger generations. Through his dedication to serving the Kingston and Queen’s communities, Peter has represented the spirit of ambassadorship that Queen’s aims to instill in its students.

At the same awards dinner, Gemma Boag (Artsci ’08) will receive the One to Watch award. Gemma is receiving the award for her achievements in researching and exploring water policy. Just three years after graduating, Gemma is now a senior policy analyst with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada. She is being honoured for her work in in raising awareness about water issues and supporting improved water and sanitation access in marginalized communities.
