Statement on racist incidents on campus

Thursday March 11, 2010

This week, three cars in the An Clachan residence parking lot were vandalized with racist graffiti. Campus security was called and city police have been alerted. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Campus Security at 613-533-6733.

We have also received information about an incident in a campus library where a student experienced disparaging remarks about their faith and culture.

Racist actions and attitudes have no place at this University where we have an obligation, and opportunity, to educate one another to overcome stereotypes and prejudices.

We know we have the Queen's community's support in addressing issues of racism and intolerance and in making our campus welcoming and respectful of every individual.

Students who are concerned and need support are encouraged to call Health, Counselling and Disability Services at 613-533-6000 ext. 78264. All members of the University community are encouraged to report incidents to, and seek support from, the Human Rights Office at 613-533-6886, or Campus Security at 613-533-6733.
