Update to the Quality Assurance Framework (QAF)

Periodically updates are made to the Quality Assurance Framework (QAF). Updates and the current version of the QAF can be seen on the website of the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance.

May 16, 2012

Dear Colleagues:

A revision to the Quality Assurance Framework (QAF) has now been approved by both the Ontario Council of Academic Vice-Presidents (OCAV) and the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance (COU Quality Council). The revision is to Section 2.2.11 (QAF p. 12) regarding the announcement of new Programs. The approved language is extracted below and included in the QAF and Guide.

Please note below the highlighted statement that must be included in any announcement of a new Program if it is made prior to the Program receiving Quality Council approval to commence.

QAF Section 2.2.11 Announcement of new Programs

Subject to approval by the university’s senior academic officer (e.g. Provost and Vice-President Academic), an institution may announce its intention to offer a new undergraduate or graduate Program in advance of approval by the Quality Council. When such announcements are made in advance of Quality Council approval, they must contain the following statement: “Prospective students are advised that offers of admission to a new program may be made only after the university’s own quality assurance processes have been completed and the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance has approved the program.”
