Martha was appointed University Librarian at Queen’s in July 2011, following one year as Interim University Librarian and six years as Associate University Librarian.
Prior to joining the Queen’s community, Martha worked at the University of British Columbia Library, holding a variety of positions in the areas of information services, information technologies and learning technologies. During an academic leave in 2003 she was a visiting scholar at the University of Melbourne, where she worked with the Director of Teaching, Learning and Research Support. While at UBC, Martha also contributed to several international collaborations relating to information literacy and learning technologies.
Martha currently serves on the Board of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries and is Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of the Ontario Council of University Libraries. She is the Canadian Association of Research Libraries representative on the Steering Committee of the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), an international alliance of academic and research libraries working to correct imbalances in the scholarly publishing system. She has held several key roles with the Canadian Research Knowledge Network, a partnership of 74 Canadian universities dedicated to expanding digital content for the academic research enterprise in Canada, including Chair of the Negotiations Resource Team, Chair of the Executive Committee and Vice-Chair of the Board.
