Welcome to our lab!

The primary research focus of our lab is how (early) environmental factors, in combination with genetic ones, can influence brain development and risk for psychopathology. We conduct several studies in children, adolescents and adults, investigating how early stress can affect neurotransmitter function (in particular serotonin) and brain areas involved in emotion regulation, predisposing the individual to mental health problems when exposed to further life stressors. Our studies involve brain-imaging, (epi)genetics, cognitive and behavioural assessments. The research is currently funded by the following organizations:

Go to CIHR Brain and Behavior Research Foundation Go to the HF Guggenheim Foundation Go to the Canada Foundation for Innovation
