Research Interests

| My research dealt with beliefs and attitudes regarding the broad social categories of gender, race and ethnicity. Questions addressed are some of the following. What are the normative expectations of people regarding gender relations (sex-role ideology), and race and ethnic relations (racial and ethnic attitudes; preference hierarchies)? How do people respond to deviations from normative expectations (prejudice, discrimination vs. tolerance)? These broad questions have been pursued in the following specific arenas: responses to sex-role deviance; sex bias in judgements of occupational suitability; occupational stereotypes; evaluative reactions to accent variations; ethnic and multicultural attitudes in Canada. |
