I am a fourth year undergraduate student at Queen’s working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Under the supervision of Dr. Johnsrude, and working closely with Cheryl Hamilton and Conor Wild, I am completing my honours thesis entitled “Context based prediction of degraded speech”. This project will examine possible mechanisms employed by the brain in using context to predict the content of speech that is difficult to understand due to some form of degradation. This model is especially applicable to the declining hearing abilities of aging adults and the corresponding increased reliance on contextual cues to perceive speech.
