FALL PREVIEW (Jill Atkinson)

The Faculty of Arts and Science received over 6000 visitors during the two days of Fall Preview which makes it one of our most important recruitment activities in attracting high quality, engaged students.  I would like to thank the DSC representatives, Madison, Taleen, Jordan, Amy and Lexy, for giving their time on the weekend to help the department in this way.  Their enthusiasm for PSYC was certainly communicated to the high school students and their parents.

CURLING PARTY - MARK YOUR CALENDARS - Saturday, December 10, 2011.  The Psychology Department invites Faculty, Retirees, Adjuncts, Staff, Graduate Students, Research Assistants and Post-Doc Fellows,  to attend the annual curling party at the Royal Kingston Curling Club (Days Road).  Curling from 1:30 - 3:30, Dinner at 4:00pm.  Please register your teams of 4 people along with your team name to Jane Dauncey by email.  Cost: of tickets:  Grad Students $10.00, Individuals $15.00, Family rate $25.00 .  Tickets will be available in the near future.  Let's Talk Science is interested in providing an hour long activity for children ages 5-10.  If interested, please RSVP with Jane.  Minimum of 4 students required.  We are also looking for other  volunteers to help with activities for children.  Carpooling can be arranged through Jane.  No prior curling experience required.

The Centre for Vision Research (CVR) at York University offers a one-week, all-expenses-paid undergraduate summer school on vision science. This year's program will be held June 3-8, 2012. Click here for details.

3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION AND EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY.  Istanbul, Turkey October 10-13, 2012.  The conference will provide a platform for educators, teachers, researchers, research students and practitioners to present work, exchange knowledge and ideas.  For more information click here.

THE GRADUATE STUDENT JOURNAL OF PSYCHOLOGY (GSJP) - CALL FOR PAPERS. Psychology Graduate Students: Gain experience publishing in psychology, make a contribution to the field and beef up your CV.  The deadline for submissions is December 2, 2011.  For more information click here.

The next CLINICAL BROWN BAG will be held on Friday, November 25, 2011 from 12:00p.m. to 1:00p.m. in Humphrey Hall, Room 228. The guest speaker, Angela Morris will be giving a presentation based on her M.Ed. research, entitled "My deaf autistic son and me". Her presentation focuses on children with deafness and autism, and is also relevant to many issues surrounding children with multi-handicaps and the difficulties and misconceptions of their caregivers. All are welcome to attend (and bring a lunch!).
