Statistical language learning: Mechanisms and constraints

Abstract: How do infants discover the structure of their native
language? In my talk, I will consider the use of statistical learning
mechanisms - the ability to track and use patterns in the input - to
discover language structure. Implications for the study of language
acquisition, language evolution, and language disorders will be
discussed.
