Jillian Fulton is an alumnus of the Bachelor of Music program at Queen's University, and will be completing her Master of Arts in Ethnomusicology at the University of Alberta in August 2013, under the supervision of Michael Frishkopf. She will be returning to Kingston in September for the Bachelor of Education program at Queen's, in which she hopes to spread her passion for Ethnomusicology to young minds.
Jillian's areas of specialization are the Arab-Islamic World and West Africa, and she has completed extensive fieldwork in Ghana, Turkey, and most recently, Morocco. She has studied Ghanaian percussion and dance under the instruction of Robert Kpogo, Wisdom Agorde, and Kwasi Dunyo, since 2009. Furthermore, she has been an active member and Teaching Assistant in the University of Alberta's West African Music Ensemble, and Middle Eastern and North African Music Ensemble, throughout the duration of her Master's degree. She hopes to improve her students' musicianship and understanding of music through intercultural music education.
