HAND DRUMMING ENSEMBLE

The QCM Hand Drumming Ensemble, under the direction of Julien Bouchard, is a great way to learn about drumming traditions from different parts of the world and make music with others! The course will be centred around djembe drumming but will explore other hand percussion as well. Technique, rhythmic notation, aural learning and improvisation will be integrated into the course.

The groups will meet through the Fall and Winter terms on alternate Sundays according to the schedule below.

 

1) SCHEDULE

Classes will take place on alternate Sundays between 2-4pm, in Rm 120 of Harrison-LeCaine Hall of Queen’s University, on Bader Lane.

2) WHO CAN ATTEND

This course is open to participants aged 16 and older, and will run with a minimum class size of 10 people (please refer to QCM Policy for further details regarding procedure if minimum class size is not achieved).

 

3) PRE-REQUISITES

Skill evaluation will take place during the first class meeting.

 

4) COURSE MATERIALS

Students are required to provide (at their own expense) their own drum. For information about acquiring equipment, please contact the instructor. Sample independent vendors are:

All registration must be done online.

Registration fee: $40 per family per year. This fee covers registration for all programs within QCM over the year.

Course fee: $220

Total fees payable: $260 (online or by cash/cheque payable to 'Queen's Community Music')
