Writing Help

The Writing Centre offers various services to help you to improve your writing skills:

  • Tutorials
These are free one-on-one sessions with a writing tutor. In an appointment of up to an hour, you can go over your essay and help identify and improve your weaknesses. Tutors will teach you to handle many of the problems that arise at various stages of the writing process: working with a preliminary draft, questions about research, or even a debilitating case of writer’s block.
Call 613-533-6315, or come to the Writing Centre Office in the Learning Commons to book your appointment today.
Please note: The Writing Centre is not a proofreading service.

  • Workshops
There are a variety of different workshops to meet your specific writing needs. Presentations such as "How to Write Your First University Essay," "Writing Effective Thesis Statements," or "Avoiding Plagiarism" can help you to develop your writing skills.

  • Credit Courses
The Writing Centre offers six undergraduate courses in effective writing. These courses are designed to develop the skills that enhance your writing.

  • Handouts
Writing Handouts are on display outside the Writing Centre. You can drop by to view them during library hours.
Topics include: Referencing Styles, the Writing Process, Punctuation and Grammar, Writing Strategies, French Language Handouts, and ESL Guides
