A. If you have a NetID and password (all Queen's students and staff have these) you have access to all of the computer stations in the QLC as well as the wireless network (if you bring a laptop with wireless internet access). If you are a public user you still have access to the computer stations however with limited internet and software options. Please be courteous to all library users and do not leave your belongings at a computer station when you are not there. All computers will automatically reboot (all files will be lost) after 15 minutes of inactivity.
A. All of the computer stations are already connected to the internet. If you are using a laptop, open your browser and enter your NetID and password to access the Queen's server. If you are having problems connecting please come visit a QLC Student Assistant or the ITS staff at the main information desk.
A. In order to print in the library you must first have a copy card. These can be purchased at the Circulation Desk for $5.00 and can be 'topped up' at any point for more printing/copying credit. When you print a document, the default printers are the three black and white laser printers on the ground floor, and the one on the Lower Level in Documents. In order to print in colour, please choose "\\printserver\StaufferC" from the drop-down list and process your job at the colour printer located in the Art Collection on the second floor of Stauffer Library.
A. When you go to print PowerPoint slides, choose 'Handouts' from the drop down menu under 'Print what'. You can then choose how many slides you would like to print per page. TIP: A lot of students prefer printing three slides per page because a lined space for notes is provided beside each slide.
A. The computers automatically print double-sided. To print on a single side of a page, click on 'Properties' in the print facility. Go to the 'Finishing' tab and uncheck the box beside 'Print On Both Sides'.
A. You have a few options when saving your work:
*Please do not try to save your file to the computer, all files will be lost when the computer reboots*
