Three Minute Thesis Competition

Come along and support Graduate Students as they compete in the 2^nd Annual Three Minute Thesis Competition. Audience members will be able to cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award, so bring along your friends and family too!

Heat 1: Monday, March18^th, starts 2:00 pm, Light Auditorium
Heat 2: Tuesday, March19^th, starts 2:00 pm, Light Auditorium
Heat 3: Wednesday, March 20^th, starts 1:00 pm, Light Auditorium
Finals: Thursday, March 21^th, starts 6pm, new Medical Building, Abramsky House (Arch Street), room 032a

3MT^® is a university wide competition for Queen’s Masters (thesis only) and doctoral students in which participants present their research and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges.  The challenge is to present complex research material in an engaging, compelling way, using only one slide.

The Three-Minute Thesis competition provides graduate students with an opportunity to refine skills that can be transferred after graduation to diverse career paths.  Distilling research into a clear form, without over-simplifying or getting overly-complex, and highlighting the wider implications of this research are important skills to carry into post-graduate employment and public service. The overall winner receives a $1,000 cash prize, the runner-up receives $500 and there will be prizes for each heat for the top three places as well as a People’s Choice award for each heat and the final.

The winner and runner-up will advance to represent Queen's at the Ontario 3MT^® competition.  Sixteen other Ontario Universities will be coming to Queen’s to compete.
