Hao Zhang, Qing Shan Bao, ChinaI am Hao Zhang from China. I have been in Canada since August 2009 and have enjoyed studying at Queen's University, School of English in their English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. Upon completion in August 2010, I attained 80% at the advanced level in listening, speaking, critical reading, writing, academic research skills, and oral presentation skills. Now I am taking one graduate course in Electrical Engineering at Queen's University, which prepares me to start my Masters degree in September 2011. The memorable time I spent at Queen's School of English prompted me to stay in Canada to pursue my graduate studies. What I gained at QSoE was not only the academic knowledge required for entry into a Canadian university but also a marvelous experience and an understanding of Canadian cultures. I extremely recommend Queen's School of English to students who are planning to study abroad or preparing for studies at a Canadian University. |

Min Soo Kim, GyeoJesi, ChinaThe EAP Program at QSoE was very challenging for me, but at the same time it was an excellent choice that I've made. I studied English as if I had been a university student in Canada. What I liked most was that I could study English through various methods. Some of these methods included writing an academic essay, giving a presentation, listening to a podcast, visiting an art gallery, and so much more. The EAP program was not just a great program to study English, but also a great program to experience the culture of Canada. With the well-organized curriculum, support, and opportunities, I am very satisfied with it! |

Eduardo Cichocki, Sao Paulo, BrazilThe 12-week English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is focused on academic reading, writing, listening, speaking and presenting which prepares the student for the TOEFL test and more importantly entrance into Queen's University. The classes contain students from all over the world with whom you will share the experiences of studying abroad. The teachers are very experienced as some have previously taught overseas; therefore, they know the best way to present the lectures. Outside of the classroom I recommend participating in socio-cultural activities, which include several out-of-town trips to major Canadian cities nearby such as Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. The City of Kingston is also not far from the United States, allowing for the opportunity to visit. Overall, I have enjoyed the Canadian culture especially in the winter time as I learned how to snowboard and I watched many hockey games. |

Xiaoyin [Smiley] Liu, Zhengzhou Jinshui, ChinaI was fortunate enough to have previously attended Queen's School of English. QSoE is not just an institution but also a family. The teachers are very experienced and supportive of the students individual needs. Furthermore, the staff are very helpful in organizing school activities and helping students with their problems. You can meet new friends from all over the world. Also, QSoE is located in Kingston, a historic town that enables you to enjoy a peaceful lifestyle while not being distracted by the fast pace environment of big city life. Overall, QSoE was the perfect place to study at. |
Malek Karaim, Charlottetown, LibyaIn May 2010, I arrived in Kingston, Canada. Immediately, I joined Queen's School of English and since the very beginning I thought that a school that welcomed me so warmly would be a great one, indeed. As the time passed, I realized that I was right. I was very lucky to get the chance to study in a school that contains a well-organized program, highly qualified teachers, and a truly supportive staff. Moreover, as I grew up in a small village in my home country, I was comfortable with the atmosphere in Kingston. By studying in a quiet, captivating city in a great country, I hit two birds with one stone. Therefore, I chose to stay in the same place for the rest of my studies. Soon after finishing my program at Queen’s School of English, with their recommendation and assistance, I became an actual graduate student in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s; hence, I feel like I have already achieved much success. |

Audrey Samson, Quebec, CanadaSpending 3 months at Queen's School of English (QSoE) has been like travelling all around the world. Besides learning English, I learned about many other cultures as well. It was a surprise for me when I entered QSoE the first day of school and I discovered I was the only Canadian student. QSoE is more than a school; it is a combination of activities with monitors and fantastic people all gathered to learn English. QSoE is an excellent school for those who want to improve their English skills through conversations, debates, and a lot more. As an advanced level student, I improved on my writing and my capability to defend my opinions and my ideas in English. QSoE gives you the opportunity to live in homestay, which I think is one of the best ways to improve English. I would start my experience over again and again... |

Saki Nishika, QSoE Student Ambassador, Japan"As a university student who specializes in English as a second language, I wanted to learn academic English and improve my English skills in a good place where I can concentrate on studying. That's why I chose the Queen's University School of English which is located in Kingston, Ontario. I had studied at QSoE for a year. My initial plan for studying at QSoE was only 6 months, but I wanted to learn more at the QSoE because I was sure my English had improved within the 6 months. I not only studied English at QSoE but I also communicated with other international students frequently. We helped and encouraged each other all the time. QSoE has a great communication style between students, teachers and monitors. I especially have a feeling of gratitude towards my teachers. When I was struggling with studying English, they tried to understand and encourage me. They have great skills teaching English to international students. I also cannot describe my Kingston life without mentioning my host family. My homestay host helped me improve my English and supported me throughout my experience in Canada. In addition, my housemates were just perfect for me. I never felt lonely when I was in Kingston, because I had many friends. My life has changed by my experiences at QSoE and in Kingston; of course in a good way for my future. I genuinely recommend people to Queen's University School of English, especially for those who want to study English and experience Canadian life. QSoE is the school for you." |

Rafaela Nardelli Bruno, Brasilia, BrazilI like the oral/aural focus of the program; I like the social activities with the monitors and the school trips. I also appreciate that the teachers are always worried about teaching us English skills as best as they can and I think the coordinators are great and try to make us feel as we were at home. Actually, everybody of the QSoE is very accessible and approachable, always ready to help us. In addition, I found amazing that we, students of the QSoE, as any other Queen’s students, can use the Physical Education Centre, free transport system and all the other amenities that Queen's has. |

Matthias Daun, Muelheim an der Ruhr, Germany"I choose Queen’s School of English because of its varied opportunities for improvement of my English skills. The QSoE’s program definitely improved my written and spoken English skills. The program contains diverse methods to enhance English skills and it also focuses on individual needs of the student. The QSoE teachers and staff are always very helpful and as a student I am never alone with my questions and problems. Another very important reason to attend to the program was the socio-cultural part of the program. I never had the chance to meet so many different cultures at one place. The students can join different kinds of activities and get easily in contact with each other which makes it so enjoyable. The experiences I made at the School of English will help me for my university studies and for my future life." |

Ben Lin, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China"As a student from China, my first purpose for coming to Canada is to study academic English in order to enter a Canadian university. When I first arrived in Kingston, I didn’t adopt (to) the Canadian life style; however, Queen’s School of English provided me with not only academic programs, but also the activities that relieve culture shock which help students a lot. I have been studying (at) QSoE for over one year. What makes me stay here for so long? Firstly, it’s the useful academic English courses. The teachers are really professional and considerate to students. Secondly, it’s the activities outside class. QSoE organizes many activities everyday which can improve student’s conversational English and enhance the relationship between students. I have learned not only English but also communication with international students. I truly believe these will be very useful for my future life." |

Cihan Tever, Istanbul, Turkey“I have studied at the School for two semesters. My English has improved incredibly. The small class size at the School is the major reason that I have chosen here. All teachers are very experienced and they are helpful for anything you ask them. The quality of education at this school is so high and we have free access to the University’s computer lab too. They arrange many activities for students and that provides nice environment to meet new people and learn about new cultures. All students are allowed to use swimming pool, gym halls and soccer ground. “I didn’t have any orientation problem here, as all Canadians are very friendly and welcoming. My classmates are from different parts of the world and they are all nice people. I feel lucky that I study here. “When I first arrived in Canada, I realized how beautiful and developed a country it is. It is impressive. You feel very safe and comfortable in this country. I recommend Canada for all parents who plan to send their kids abroad for high quality education. “Queen’s School of English is located in the center of Kingston. Kingston is a very convenient city for students who really want to concentrate on their studies.” |

Ashraf Ali Bourawy, EL-Beida, Libya“My studies at the School of English have helped me in several things. Firstly, learning how to write academically, how to arrange my ideas, and how to make strong presentations helped me in my Masters program.” When asked if his course at the School of English was a requirement for admission to his degree program (Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s), Ashraf said: “In fact, it was either to have the TOEFL score or 80% at the advanced level [at the School], and I got both!” |

Chihiro Misawa, Tokyo, Japan"My major purpose for studying English is to help me prepare for life in a Canadian university. Queen's University's SoE system provides us a high quality academic program. We can concentrate on study in such an environment; SoE students can use the facilities of the university which are really useful for us, especially the libraries. Besides, teachers push us to (a) higher level and we could make obvious progress. These experiences have not only influenced my English skills, (but) also my life." |

Not only the teachers and their lessons are great, but also the various activities you can join after class.
