Marion Edith Dubin Scholarship in English

Established in memory of Marion Edith Dubin and awarded to a student who might not otherwise have the opportunity to study at Queen’s School of English (QSoE).

Summer 2017: Min Jung (Julie) Ju, Korea

Winter 2017: Jing (Zoe) Huang, China

Fall 2016: Daniel Carvalho, Brazil

Summer 2016: Akiho Yatsuda, Japan

Winter 2016: Sojeong Kim, Korea and Junjie Jin, Korea

 

Eligibility:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must be applying to the English for Academic Purposes Program (EAP) at QSoE. Government funded scholarship students are ineligible.

Application Guidelines:

  • Students must submit a completed application for the English for Academic Purposes program by the stated deadline
  • Students must submit an English composition (maximum of 500 words, 2 pages double-spaced)
  • The scholarship application form (download below) and the composition must be submitted by email to soe@queensu.ca
  • Submissions for the winter 2017 Marion Edith Dubin Memorial Scholarship in English must be received by December 7, 2017

Scholarship Award Criteria: 

  • Writing is persuasive, cohesive, and presents and supports an argument or position
  • Scholarship applicant displays potential as a writer
  • While the scholarship composition may contain errors in organization and mechanics, these errors do not seriously detract from the writer’s message

Number of Awards:

Three awards will be made for payment towards tuition for each EAP session (Summer, Fall and Winter terms). One award will be awarded to one student per term for a total of three recipients during the 2017-2018 year. 

Composition Theme:

Describe an experience where you were unsuccessful in achieving your goal. What lessons did you learn from this experience ?
