Transportation to Kingston

When planning your trip to Kingston, Ontario, you have an option of traveling through Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal. These are the closest major cities to Kingston. Most of our students find it easier to travel to Kingston through the Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Traveling From Toronto

There are a few ways to travel to Kingston from the Toronto Pearson International Airport. Please review the options below to choose the best one for yourself.

By Plane

You can fly directly to Kingston through Toronto with Air Canada Jazz. This option is less expensive when booked as part of your original flight to Canada. Once you land at the Kingston Airport, you will require a taxi to take you to Queen's. Taxis are available at the Kingston airport. A taxi may cost you anywhere between $10 and $20 Canadian dollars. You may want to tip the driver approximately 10%.

By Bus

There is a direct bus service from the Toronto airport to Kingston and the Queen's University campus. It is operated by Coach Canada. If you are buying tickets from the website, select from Toronto Pearson Airport to Kingston. If you are traveling late at night, it is recommended to get off at the Kingston bus station, located on 1175 John Counter Blvd., where there are staff and taxis available to help you.

Tickets can be purchased online or when you arrive in Toronto on the Arrival Level of the airport at the Airport Express Kiosks. In Terminal 1 you will find the kiosk inside at the escalator. At Terminal 3 you will find the kiosk outside, between area 25 & 27.

The bus departs three times per day. Please refer to the Coach Canada website for the exact times.

The cost for a one-way fare is approximately $60. You do not need to tip the bus driver.

By Train

You can take a VIA Rail shuttle service from the Toronto Pearson International Airport to VIA Rail (train) station in downtown Toronto. Please visit VIA Rail website (www.viarail.ca) for prices and schedule of the shuttle services.

From the Toronto train station (Union Station), you can take a direct train to Kingston. Once you arrive at the train station in Kingston, you will need to take a taxi to travel to your accommodations, Queen’s residence or homestay. A taxi may cost you anywhere between $10 and $20 Canadian dollars. You may want to tip the driver approximately 10%.

Traveling From Montreal

By Bus

Take Express Bus 747 (the Montréal public transit service (STM)), a shuttle service from Montréal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport to the Montréal Central Bus Station. Tickets can be purchased at the currency exchange on the international arrivals level. This bus is much less expensive than a taxi.

By Train

You can take a VIA Rail shuttle service from Montréal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport to the VIA Rail (train) station in Montreal. The train station is called Dorval. Please visit VIA Rail website for exact prices and schedule.

From the Dorval Train Station in Montreal, you can take a direct train to Kingston. From the train station in Kingston, you will need to take a taxi to travel to your accommodations, Queen’s residence or homestay. A taxi may cost you anywhere between $10 and $20 Canadian dollars. You may want to tip the driver approximately 10%.

Traveling From Ottawa

By Bus

There is a shuttle bus service between MacDonald-Cartier Airport and downtown Ottawa hotels. It departs at the Level 1 curb outside the terminal in the arrivals area.

The local city bus, Route 97, departs the terminal at the curb outside the Arrivals area. Tickets are available at the "Ground Transportation Desk" located on Level 1 at the center door of the Arrivals area. Full information about transportation options from the Ottawa airport to downtown Ottawa can be found at the MacDonald-Cartier Airport website.

If you take a taxi to the Ottawa bus station from the Ottawa airport, it will cost you approximately $30 Canadian dollars. You may want to tip the taxi driver approximately 10%.

Bus service from Ottawa to Kingston is available through Greyhound Canada.

By Train

You can take a taxi from Ottawa’s MacDonald-Cartier Airport to the VIA Rail (train) station in Ottawa. If you take a taxi, it will cost you approximately $30 Canadian dollars.

From the Ottawa Via Rail (train) station you can take a direct train to Kingston. At the Kingston train station, you will need to take a taxi to travel to your accommodations, Queen’s residence or homestay. A taxi may cost you anywhere between $10 and $20 Canadian dollars. You may want to tip the driver approximately 10%.
