In PeopleSoft, Job Codes are different from Positions.
A job code applies to every person employed by the University. It indicates a general category, such as Director, that can be used to describe a position. A Position, on the other hand, is a term used in PeopleSoft to track details on a particular job in a particular department, unit or location, such as Director - Marketing. One job code may apply to any number of positions across campus.Positions usually have a one-to-one relationship with individual employees, whereas job codes often have a one-to-many relationship with any number of staff or faculty. There may be more than one Director (Job Code) , but typically there would be only one person in the Director - Marketing (Position) for a particular department.
