The term Common Person Model refers to the concept that individuals will have a single University ID number regardless of their role at Queen's over time. Whether they connect with the University at different times as students, employees or volunteers, the system will be able to recognize each individual through their unique ID number.
This data will be used by both the new Human Resources and Student administrative systems. Data shared in one integrated database, known as ‘Campus Community', will permit both modules to work together.
The new Common Person feature will allow the system to follow the path of every employee, regardless as to how many times their role might change within the University. In the old system, for example, an employee would not necessarily use their employee ID number if they were to become a student at the University. They would be tracked separately as both a student and staff, potentially causing a gap or mix-up in information. In the new PeopleSoft system, through transitions from student to employee and/or alumni volunteer, the Common Person Model will enable Queen's to keep up with a constantly changing environment.
