New Finance Administration System Launched

Last week, Queen's launched Release 1 of its new Finance Administration system. On December 1st, more than 100 authorized users logged onto the system for the first time. This major milestone caps months of intense activity to plan, design, configure, convert, test, train and cutover to the new system. Much work remains to complete the implementation, but during its first day of use, Queen's staff:

  • produced the first cheques on the new system;
  • entered the first journal entries; and
  • processed the first purchase requisition, issued the purchase order via email to the supplier (who delivered the product the next day), and used the new system to receive the order.

As expected, the Support Centre was busy with initial calls for help related to gaining secure access to the system, mapping new account codes and using revised forms. Finetuning also included more frequent refreshes of account information to the salary requisition system.

QUASR Program Director Jim Carse described the launch as "a multi-generational leap in terms of technology and process." In a memo to staff, he noted: "On its own, this is a sizeable feat. Taking the milestone in the context of enabling future phases of QUASR in Research, Human Resources and Student administrative applications makes this first milestone extra special."
