The Athletics & Recreation Centre (ARC) in the Queen's Centre is now open. Approximately 100 people streamed through the doors at 6:00am on Tuesday morning eager to be one of the first people to work out in the ARC.
One hour later, facility staff estimated that over 350 people had entered the building. By then end of the day officials estimated that upwards of 10,000 people had visited the ARC
The Queen's swim team had the first opportunity to check out the new 38m x 25m pool featuring 14 lanes and four diving boards. They waited patiently for photographers to take a photo of the first swim in the pool. Others headed to the ‘Cardio Zones' to work out on one of the new 40 new cardio machines (elliptical/treadmills) with TV screens.
Other highlights include 25 stationary bikes, 10 stair masters, 50 strength and conditioning machines as well as over seven tons of free weights. The ARC comes complete with four dance studios four recreational basketball/volleyball courts. The ARC also has the most squash (8) and racquetball (2) courts in Kingston.
