9) Students usually get only half of their OSAP in September. What happens if they do not receive enough to cover the first instalment of tuition?
As long as the University knows the student is receiving OSAP (equal to or greater than tuition), they will automatically be deferred. Students are assessed to receive 60% of their funding in the fall, and consequently the University expects the student to pay 60% of tuition in September. The rest will be due for payment in the winter term. If the OSAP assessment does not cover the tuition, the student must pay the balance.

10) Will OSAP now go directly into a student's Queen's account to pay tuition?
No, the policy regarding OSAP does not change: it will need to be picked up at the Registrar’s Office and processed through the Nation Student Loan Service Centre. OSAP funding goes to the student, not the University, and the student must retain responsibility to budget the funding to pay for education expenses including, but not limited to, tuition, and to understand his/her repayment obligations.

11) What happens if your OSAP is reassessed during the year and you are no longer receiving enough to cover tuition?
If the original assessment provides enough money to cover tuition before September 1st, the commitment to pay will be satisfied, no matter whether OSAP is subsequently reassessed or not. If the reassessment is lower and will not cover tuition, the student must pay the difference before September 30th, or will be charged the regular service charges. This approach is the same as current policy.

12) Other provincial governments do not submit proof of funding to Ontario Universities - will that change?
It is not likely to change and would be a question for those governments. We cannot see that happening because usually students stay in-province for school, and if they do not, they travel all over the world and it would be difficult for governments to track all students at all institutions.

13) Are steps being taken to automatically verify student financial aid programs, like OSAP, from other provinces?
The University is unable to take any steps with jurisdictions that cannot communicate electronically with details about the student’s financial aid. This is not a change from current practice, in the sense that students receiving financial aid from other sources need to inform the University separately. If you are receiving financial aid from another province or territory, please take a look at the FAQs on Tuition Fees and Commitment to Pay.

14) Is a student able to pay tuition as soon as fees are assessed in July?
Yes. Because tuition is assessed at the time of enrollment, students are able to begin paying their fees as soon as their courses are chosen.
