Registration Information for Incoming International Exchange (Undergraduate and Law) Students to Queen's University

Important Information

  • Monday the 6th September 2010 is a national holiday in Canada.
    • Closed: Banks, University offices and libraries, most retail stores.
    • Open: The Queen's University International Centre (QUIC) from 1-10 p.m. (although the office for UHIP enrolment is closed), Residence Halls, restaurants.

University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) - Mandatory Health Insurance

    General Information

    All international students registered at Queen's University and residing in Ontario during their period of study are required to enrol in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) - participation is mandatory for both the student and their dependants while residing in Ontario.  UHIP is a basic health insurance plan comparable to the Ontario provincial health plan, provided to residents.  Only those students who can provide proof that they are covered by a comparable plan can waive UHIP.  See http://www.uhip.ca/exempted.aspx for the current list of comparable plans.

    All international students must complete a UHIP application, either in person at the Queen's University International Centre (QUIC), or online at http://quic.queensu.ca/incoming/uhip-studentpre-registration.asp and submit payment before their registration can begin.

    Exchange students must be enrolled in UHIP coverage for each term that they are attending Queen's University.

    • The payment deadline is 01 August 2010, for fall or fall& winter admission.
    • The payment deadline for winter admission is 01December 2010.

    UHIP premium rates for Single coverage from 01 September 2010 until 31 August 2011, (including taxes) in Canadian funds;

      Single Term: $240 01 September - 31 December, or
      01 January- 30 April
      Two Terms: $480 01 September- 30 April
      Annual Fee: $720 01 September - 31 August

    Dependent rates are an additional $432.00 per term (for one dependent) or $864.00 per term (for 2 or more dependents) from 01 September until 31 August 2011, (uncluding taxes) in Canadian funds

      Method of Payment

      IMPORTANT:  Ensure that your name and Queen's University student number are included in your method of payment for proper processing of your payment.

      3 Steps to Registration

      Step 1: The Queen's International Centre (QUIC)

      Location: The John Deutsch University Centre (JDUC), at the corner of University Avenue and Union Street.
      Purpose:

      To finalize your health insurance registration.

      To meet the International Student Advisor (Justin Kerr).
      To pick up an Orientation Package and learn more about ways to get involved in your time at Queen's.

      What to bring: Your Student Number, proof of UHIP payment
      You will receive:

      An orientation package.
      Temporary proof of your UHIP health coverage until your UHIP card arrives at QUIC (approximately 3-4 weeks later).

      The ability to proceed further in the registration process.

      Step 2: Registration to Queen's Student Card

      Location: Gordon Hall, Room 400
      Purpose: To meet Maryann Severin, Admission and Registration Coordinator - International Exchanges.
      To generate your NetID and Personal Identification Number (PIN), if not already done pre-arrival.
      To access QCARD to confirm your registration information.
      To generate your student email account (@queensu.ca), if not already done pre-arrival.
      To receive Photo-ID student card and validation sticker.
      When: You only need to attend one of the following sessions:
      Thursday 2 September 2010, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
      Friday 3 September 2010, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
      Tuesday 7 September 2010, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
      Thursday 6 January 2011, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
      Friday 7 January 2011, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.
      What to bring: Your "Letter of Admission" to Queen's
      Personal identification with a photograph (e.g. Passport)
      The original of the completed UHIP application form
      Your student number

      Step 3: Your Faculty / School Main Office
