Queen's University

Welcome to the School of Religion!

Why study here?

Because we care about how much religion is in the news. We think about the ways that misunderstandings of religion play a role in conflict around the world. We see evidence that creating better understanding of religious diversity contributes to a more cohesive and peaceful society. Gaining a critical understanding of religion helps interpret it as an essential dimension of human life.

Over the years, professors here have achieved their degrees from Toronto, McGill, Cambridge, Harvard and Chicago.

Our graduates are currently teaching or studying at universities in Canada, the United States and Europe such as Cardiff (Wales), York U, Toronto, St. Mary's, St. Paul's, University of California, Pacific School of Religion, UBC, U of Waterloo, U of Ottawa and Wilfrid Laurier.

Recent graduates have gone on to work internationally in Egypt, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India and the USA. Some have even become Moderator of the United Church of Canada and Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Canada.

Recent honorary degree recipients include Karen Armstrong, Ruth Wright, Jonathan Z Smith, Eileen Schuller, Eldon Hay, Julia Ching and Christopher Durasing.
