The next admissions cycle begins in Fall 2013, for admission beginning September 2014. All applications and supporting documentation, including letters of reference, must be received on or before February 15, 2014.
The minimum qualification for admission to the Master of Arts Program in Religious Studies is a GPA equivalent to "B+" on the Queen's scale in a four-year Honours undergraduate degree program in Religious Studies, or equivalent, awarded by a recognized university.
Candidates with high academic standing in an undergraduate degree other than religious studies, but who have done some coursework in religious studies, may be admitted as graduate preparatory students. Preparatory students will be asked to complete up to one year of undergraduate courses to enhance their background. For these students the program will take more than twelve months, but we can normally only guarantee financial aid for the first twelve months.
Students in the MA program have come from universities across Canada, from the United States and Europe. Many have been awarded their Honours degrees with first-class standing and have received prizes, awards, or recognition on a Dean's Honour List. Students frequently win federal (SSHRC) scholarships, provincial (OGS) scholarships, and internal Queen's scholarships.
Prospective students are strongly encouraged to apply using Queen's online application process. This process begins in September each year. Log on to the Queen's online application system and follow the steps listed, first creating a user account and then completing and submitting your application. All documentation that you submit with your application should be sent to the School of Graduate Studies, Queen's University, Gordon Hall Room 425, Kingston, Ontario K7L 3N6. This includes a list of current courses, a curriculum vitae, and a statement of interest. The only exception to this is your written sample of work which should be directed to the School of Religion, Queen's University, Kingston, ON, Canada K7L 3N6. Any mail sent to the School that cannot be delivered directly to the Main Office (Rm 212), Theological Hall, Queen's University will not be accepted. Please note that the final step to submit your application is to pay the non-refundable application fee.
In order to be considered for financial aid, you must request financial aid on your application form. Requesting financial aid does not prejudice your application in any way.
Policies on academic qualifications for admission, acceptance, registration, student categories, study status, residence, and courses are set forth in the General Regulations of the School of Graduate Studies and Research.
