Reducing the drain on infrastructure repairs
Crumbling water and sewer systems pose many risks to Canadians, from immediate health and safety concerns to long-term environmental impact. Dr. Moore is engineering trenchless technologies to repair leaky pipes by installing polymer linings within old water mains, avoiding the need for digging trenches and the resulting traffic disruptions.
Professor Moore has increasingly focused his research on assessing and managing the stability of deteriorating structures. More than 80 per cent of civil-engineering construction in Canada involves repairing the basic infrastructure that Canadians depend on every day. Professor Moore's work helps engineers in the field make better decisions about whether to repair or replace existing systems, potentially saving millions of taxpayer dollars in the process.
