Queen's University

Volunteers Sought to Chair Thesis Defence Exams

The School of Graduate Studies and Research would be very interested in having retired Emeritus faculty chair thesis defenses.  If you would be willing to do this for Queen's, please contact Rose Silva, Thesis Coordinator, in the School of Graduate Studies and Research at or phone: 613 533 6100.

Guidelines and procedures for thesis defenses can be found on the SGSR website at under "Current Students", then "Completing Your Degree."

Emeritus faculty, retired from a department with a graduate program, can Chair a Masters or Doctoral examination from outside of their home department, within their SGSR Division. This is the same eligibility as for full-time faculty. In general, as with all faculty, emeritus faculty members can be contacted once per term for Chairing duties, for a total of 3 examinations per calendar year (terms: Jan 1- April 30; May 1-Aug 31; Sept 1 Dec 31).  Janice Deakin, Associate Vice-Principal and Dean, Graduate Studies and Research would be grateful to any retiree demonstrating the willingness to assist in this important capacity.
