Major Topics of the 1960s and 70s

In the summer of 2007, one of the first tasks undertaken by our summer student was to gauge the important topics of the 1960s and 70s. We thought we might jog the memories of those who were at Queen's at the time by providing the information on the web site. If anything inspires you please email

with your recollections. If you know staff and faculty who would have interesting points of view about the era please let us know their names. Although we will only covering the 1960s in the immediate future, we are including both decades in case you want to tell us about the 70s.

Topics Debated in Senate

The first three topics (University Expansion, New Programs and Admissions/Enrolment) show that Queen's was changing rapidly throughout the period between 1960 and 1980. Student housing was constructed and new buildings were commissioned, while new schools and faculties were being set up to appeal to a wide variety of academic interests. The ceiling set on enrolment helped maintain Queen's as a small school and ensure that it could remain exclusive in admitting outstanding applicants.
