| Tanzania expels six Kenyan media workers, (Sapa, 2005-06-28):-Tanzania has ordered six Kenyans working for a prominent media company here to leave the country for violating immigration regulations, officials said Tuesday. The six, including a senior executive, several editors and managers, are accused of living and working in Tanzania without proper authorization and have been given until late Tuesday to depart, the officials said. "The government has ordered them to have left the country at the end of the day today," said Herbert Chilambo, a spokesman for Tanzania's immigration department. He said the deportation order followed inquiries on the legality of their immigration status, including working permits. The six Kenyans are all employed by Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL), a joint venture between Kenya's Nation Media Group and local investors which publishes the English daily, The Citizen, and the Kiswahili daily, Mwananchi. An MCL official said the company had been trying without success to have the proper documentation issued for the six since April. | |
