Zimbabwean teachers in SA under fie, (Zimbabwean, 2006-03-16):-Thousands of Zimbabwean teachers in Gauteng province are set to lose their jobs following a probe by Gauteng Member of the Executive Council for Education (MEC) Angie Motshekga. Foreign teachers are compelled to register with South Council of Educated (SCE), Department of Education and South Africa Qualifications Authority before practicing in the country. According to the information released by the Progressive Teacher’s Union in South Africa Chairman Bongani Nyathi more than 10,000 Zimbabwean teachers are in South Africa, less than 20 are registered and 50 have temporary registration certificates. “The officials here give various excuses for not registering a foreign teacher especially Zimbabweans”, he said. “There are bureaucratic evaluation process applied to a Zimbabwean teacher and we are forced to believe that they don’t want Zimbabwean teacher to practice in South Africa.”
