| Tourist arrivals surpass target, (Times of Zambia, 2006-08-11):-International tourist arrivals exceeded the 20 per cent increase projected for 2005, Zambia National Tourism Board (ZNTB), acting marketing manager, Ephraim Belemu, has said. Mr Belemu said Zambia received about 668,862 international tourists in 2005 compared to 515, 000 arrivals in 2004. In an interview at the 80th Zambia Agriculture and Commercial show in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Belemu said the sector also recorded increased investment of about K80 billion in 2005 against the K65.2 billion recorded in 2004. Mr Belemu said the ZNTB inconjunction with the private sector would be undertaking marketing missions to South Africa this month to enhance efforts of promoting Zambian tourism abroad. He said a number of Zambian tour operators and travel agencies had already indicated their willingness to travel to South Africa to market the destination. “We target specific clients from major tourism markets when conducting our tour missions, and our aim is to ensure that the Visit Zambia campaign is translated into actual arrivals of tourists,” he said. He said Zambia was targeting to record about 1, 000, 000 tourist arrivals by the year 2010. The Visit Zambia campaign is also hoping to stimulate domestic tourism to at least 50 per cent of the international arrivals by 2010. | |
