Angry residents of Ottosdal in the North West have attacked businesses belonging to foreigners, particularly Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals. Residents claim the foreigners have taken business opportunities from local business people. Fifteen shops have been looted and badly damaged. Koos Degenaar, a police superintendent, says thanks to the heavy police presence, the situation is slowly returning to normal. Earlier this week, businesses belonging to Somalis were looted in demarcation-related unrest at Khutsong, west of Johannesburg. Somalis' shops have also been attacked in the Western and Eastern Cape during the last few months.
