The Reverend James Williamson (1806-1895) was one of the first professors to teach at Queen's. Over the course of his fifty-three years at Queen's he taught mathematics, sciences, and theology. He served as the university's first vice-principal from 1882-1895. Students affectionately referred to him as "Billy". In her history of Queen's, Hilda Neatby claims that "…as long as he lived, [he was] the best loved of all professors…" Williamson's second marriage was to Margaret Macdonald, sister of Sir John A. Macdonald. Thus, Williamson is buried in a place of prominence, in the lot of Canada's first Prime Minister.
