To provide an opinion to the administration, on behalf of the University Council, regarding whether the University should speak out through the Principal, and to what extent, on current issues.
Up to five members of the University Council. The Committee will elect a chair from among these members.
Committee members will develop and execute a consultation plan to seek input from Councillors in order to investigate and articulate the University Council’s opinion(s), on the mandate statement above.
Committee members are expected to participate in meetings, either in person or remotely, and to engage with each other, the University resource person assigned to the Committee, and the University Secretariat between meetings.
The Office of the Principal will identify a subject-matter expert to serve as resource person to the Committee and to be the primary point of contact for information requests.
The University Secretariat will provide basic administrative support including assistance scheduling meetings, access to a toll-free teleconferencing line, records management, and facilitating communications between the Committee and the University Council.
The Committee will produce an interim report to the Executive Committee approximately six months into its mandate. The interim report should indicate the Committee’s progress to date and any challenges that arose.
A final report articulating the University Council’s opinion regarding the mandate statement above will be submitted to the Principal, via the Executive Committee, within one year of the Committee commencing its work.
