Academic Contracts Procedure

Contact Officer: Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) or designate

Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to describe the process for entering into Academic Contracts.

Procedure - Organizational Unit

  1. Where applicable based on Contract value, if a need for an Academic Contract is identified, the department/Faculty must inform the Provost and VP Academic as early as possible in the process to ensure proper consultation is undertaken.
  2. Academic Contracts with a counter-party outside of Canada must be reviewed and approved by the International Office.  If there is a research component involved, the International Office will work with the Office of the Vice-Principal Research as required.  The International Office will prepare a memo documenting their review and approval of the Agreement.
  3. Proposals for new programs and changes to existing programs require internal approval by the Senate. New programs also require appraisal by the Quality council (QC) appraisal committee: Queen's University Quality Assurance Processes.
  4. Once all required approvals have been obtained, the Academic Contract must be executed in accordance with the Policy on Approval and Execution of Contracts and Invoices.
