Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees
Nomination Form 2014

Introduction

The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees of Queen's University invites nominations for honorary degrees to be awarded at convocations in the year 2014. In order to encourage the broadest possible range of nominations, any person is eligible to make a nomination.

Eligibility Guidelines

• faculty and staff at Queen's are not eligible for nomination until at least three to five years after retirement
• an active politician is not eligible
• the person must be living
• nominations that reflect the diversity of Canadian society are encouraged

Selection Process

• August 9, 2013 - deadline for nomination forms. All materials submitted are held in confidence
• September 2013 - Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees meets to review nominations and make recommendations
• September 2013 - recommendations approved by Senate
• October 2013 - invitations to candidates sent
• Spring 2014 - list of honorees made public

Selection Criteria

• outstanding contributions to discipline or field of work, to community, to society or to the University
• nominee may come from any country

2014 Convocation Dates

Convocations will be held in June and Fall (TBD).

A completed nomination form is essential for submission to the Committee and the Senate.

You may reproduce the form, vary the length of the sections, but the content is limited to two pages.

Please take great care in completing the section "Reasons for Recommending Award of an Honorary Degree" since the Committee focuses on this section in making its selection.

You may include up to 15 pages of supporting documentation (curriculum vitae, letters of support, etc.) but only the form will be presented to Senate.
