Reports of Suspicious Persons On & Near Campus

March 16, 2016

Campus Security and Emergency Services is issuing an alert based on four suspicious person reports received on and near main campus within a 24 hour period.

In the first incident, a student reported she was followed home from campus by an unknown man during the early morning hours of March 15. When the student arrived at her house, the man continued up onto the porch and attempted to open the locked door after she entered.

There were three subsequent reports last night and early this morning of males who appeared out of place and with brief descriptions similar the one in the first report, however it cannot be conclusively determined to be the same person.

The males in each call were generally described as being Caucasian, in their late 30s / early 40s, approximately 5'8" tall, and wearing a dark colour jacket, blue jeans, and a ball cap.

Anyone who may have experienced a similar incident off-campus is asked to contact Kingston Police at 613-549-4660 to make a report. In case of an immediate threat to safety or if this crime is in progress, call 9-1-1.

Students are advised to ensure windows and doors are kept locked at all times and curtains closed at night. Members of the Queen's community are reminded that AMS Walkhome Service is available for accompanied walks by calling 613-533-9255 (613-533-WALK).

If you require a 'safe walk' from one area of campus to another after Walkhome's hours of operation, you can contact Campus Security at 613-533-6080 or by using a campus emergency "blue light" phone or any campus payphone (free to call).

Familiarize yourself with nearby campus Blue Light Emergency Phones, program the Queen's Emergency phone number into your cell phone, and download the SecureApp (SeQure) to your cell phone.
