Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS)
information 2013–2014

Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) applications are to be made directly to each university where you may be enrolled in 2013-14. This represents a change from previous years when all applications were received and adjudicated by the province.

The Ontario Graduate Scholarships promote excellence in graduate studies at the master's and doctoral levels. An OGS can be awarded for a minimum of two terms and a maximum of six terms as per the provincial regulations.

A Queen’s OGS award must be taken up at Queen’s; it is not transferrable to another institution. Please see the information below about How to Apply for an OGS at Queen’s.

Scholarship Value: $10,000 (2 terms) to $15,000 (one year), some 2 year awards will be granted.

Eligible Applicants

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada*.
  • Enrolled in an eligible post-secondary institution in Ontario
  • Taking an eligible program on a full time basis.
    • An eligible program is defined as a full-time program of study of two or three terms at an eligible institution leading to a graduate degree. Eligible programs must be approved as eligible for funding by MTCU.
    • A full time student is one who is in at least 60% of a full course load (40% for students with a permanent disability) or as defined by their institution.
  • * Visa Students. Foreign students who are studying in Ontario under a temporary resident visa - student study permit, under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) are eligible for the allotted visa student awards.

Minimum Academic Requirements for Applicants

  • If entering the first or second year of graduate studies at the time of application the student must have an overall average of at least A-, or the equivalent, on the last 20 one-term/semester courses, or the equivalent, completed.
  • If the student is entering the third year of graduate studies at the time of application the student must have an overall average of at least A-, or the equivalent, onall graduate courses completed.
  • If master’s or doctoral degree marks used for calculating an applicant’s grade point average (GPA) are not available (for example, courses were graded on a pass-fail basis), then the university’s Graduate Studies Office will use the most recently available undergraduate or graduate marks to calculate a student’s GPA.

 To access the browser check

To access the OGS application please click on the link below, and you will be taken to a registration page. You will then choose the appropriate application form to use. One is for students who are planning to enrol in a NEW graduate program in 2013-14. Since these students will also submit an Application for Admission to Graduate Studies they will not need to provide additional letters of reference or transcripts in support of the OGS application.  The other form is for students who are currently registered in a full time graduate program at Queen’s and will continue in the SAME program and level.
