Each graduate program will host their own individual orientation to help you become familiar with your labs, classrooms, offices and what is required by the department. Please check with your program as to when this will occur.

This is an opportunity for new (as well as a refresher for current) graduate students to learn about the myriad of support services offered to you at Queen’s. From IT support to childcare to Health, Counselling & Disability Services, to recreational opportunities, to academic support networks such as the Writing Centre, Centre for Teaching & Learning and the Expanding Horizons Workshop series. Last year 22 support services hosted booths with information geared to both domestic and international graduate students.

From 10:00am-10:10am the Principal, Deans of School of Graduate Studies and Student Affairs, will make some welcoming remarks at centre stage in the Atrium.
At 10:10am, the SGPS will present their graduate support Awards at centre stage in the Atrium
From 10:20am - 10:50am - second Information session "Strategies to Success", Biosciences 1101
The SGPS will be running some activities to give you another chance to meet in an informal and fun way and Queen's CFRC radio will be providing some background music for us all.

This day-long conference will be similar to last year’s event (with a few new sessions) and will be an opportunity for all students and post-doctoral fellows interested in teaching to meet and learn about new and interesting developments in teaching and learning. A featured guest keynote speaker (TBA), and sessions by members of the Queen’s community will focus on key aspects of the roles and responsibilities of undergraduate teaching. Professional development sessions will provide an opportunity to develop general teaching skills and some discipline-specific practices. This opportunity to get together in a one-day, focused environment can be an important step in encouraging effective teaching practices and further professional development, as well as enhancing the profile of the role teaching assistants play in undergraduate education.

As a new student in the School of Graduate Studies, the Office of the University Registrar requires your photo for production of your student card for pick-up in September.
Send your photo in .jpeg format, as attachment, to: student.card@queensu.ca. Please name the attachment by your last name, followed by your date of birth (MMDDYY).
For example: SMITH102962
The content of the e-mail should include your full name (David Brian Smith), faculty and your date of birth.

Please submit your photo within 2 weeks for production of your student card. Failure to submit your photo may result in waiting in long lines to receive your student card in September.
NB:If you are a previous Queen’s student returning in a different school or faculty, you WILL require a new card, as you have changed faculties. Please submit a new photo.
