International Graduate Student Health Insurance

All international students and their dependents (spouse or children) residing in Ontario, must be enrolled in UHIP, the University Health Insurance Plan for the duration of their time at Queen’s University. 

UHIP is a mandatory basic health plan that provides doctor and hospital services comparable to the Ontario provincial health plan provided to residents.

Effective September 1^st, 2012 all international students will be automatically enrolled in single UHIP coverage.  The duration of coverage and associated fee is pre-determined based on the student’s registration status with the university.  The appropriate UHIP fee for single coverage will be applied directly to the student’s SOLUS account and managed with other payments and deadlines.  (See: Registrar’s web site)

International students with dependents (spouse or children) residing with them in Ontario must visit the Queen’s University International Centre to enrol or re-enrol their dependents in UHIP coverage within the first 30days.  Failure to do so will result in a $ 500 late enrolment penalty plus retroactive UHIP fees.

All international students must visit the Queen's University International Centre (QUIC) to finalize their registration in UHIP and receive confirmation of health coverage for doctor and hospital visits. 

UHIP coverage for new students will begin August 10^th (for fall registrations), December 10^th (for winter registrations) and April 10^th (for summer registrations). UHIP coverage for returning students will begin September 1^st.
