"Oh the directions they go!" Read about the career plans of our Physical and Health Education students as submitted by them at the time of their graduation.
[Note: The BPHE SSP was the "Teaching Stream" of the concurrent Physical and Health Education program.]
Note: In 2008-09, twenty-eight BPHE graduates from Spring 2008 returned to Queen's as follows: one student entered a MA in Kinesiology & Studies; three students entered a MSC in Kinesiology & Health Studies; two students entered an MSC in Rehabilitation Therapy; two students entered a MSC in Physical Therapy; fourteen students entered a BED program at the Faculty of Education; five students returned to upgrade from a BA to a BAH; and, one student returned to pursue post-degree course work.
In the fall of 2008, I will be pursuing a Masters in Sport Psychology at the University of Windsor with Dr. Krista Chandler.
My area of research will be targeting the effectiveness of imagery use
in a sport and/or exercise context. This step will aid in my future goal
to teach at an academic institution.
L.M.C. - BSC GEN BIOL, BPHE SSP
In September 2008, I will be attending the University of Saskatchewan to further pursue my education with a Master of Public Health (MPH).
I am not sure which area I want to specialize in yet, but I would like
to be involved with health policy and cardiac prevention programs in the
future.
S.C. - BSC GEN BIOL, BPHE SPF
In September, I will begin my Masters of Science in Health Promotion here at Queen's under the supervision of Dr. Stevenson Fergus and the guidance of Dr. Rosemary Jolly.
I am excited to begin work on a project that will strive to prevent
HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence in rural South Africa. I anticipate
the next two years will involve a lot of growing and learning, both as a
student/researcher and a person.
L.M.M. - BA MIN PSYC, BPHE SPF
Since finishing at
Queen's I have returned to my hometown Ottawa, and I have been lucky
enough to have found a job at the Head Office of the Canadian Health Measures Survey run by Statistics Canada.
Come September I hope to have my contract extended and work as a field
worker so that I can travel around Canada collecting physical health
measures for the survey. I would hope to do that for about a year, at
which point I hope to return to school to get my Master's.
J.C. - BSC GEN LISC, BPHE SPF
This Fall I will be attending Queen's University Teachers College.
I hope to obtain a job teaching at the high school level so that I can
gain experience coaching sports teams in hopes of becoming a
professional coach for a University or College team.
A.M.M. - BSC GEN LISC, BPHE SSP
In September, I will begin my Masters of Rehabilitation Therapy in Clinical Exercise Physiology here at Queen's under the supervision of Dr. Cheryl King Van-Vlack.
S.K. - BSC GEN LISC, BPHE SPF
In September, I will begin my direct-entry Master's Program in Nursing
at McGill University, designed for students with non-nursing
backgrounds to obtain an MScN in three years. Ultimately, I would like
to become a Nurse Practitioner and to work for Medecins Sans Frontieres
(MSF). This program will give me the skills I need to make a difference
both in Canada and internationally.
S.C.C. - BSC GEN LISC, BPHE SPF
In September 2008, I will be attending Simon Fraser University in British Columbia for the Master of Public Health program with a Global Health emphasis (MPH-GH)
With this program, I will have the opportunity to design, implement and
evaluate a practicum initiative in a developing country. The MPH-GH
program will aid in my future endeavours within the health and medical
field.
M.A.N.R. - BSC GEN BIOL, BPHE SPF
I will be returning to Queen's this fall to attend Teachers College.
Before beginning a career I plan to travel to South America and
volunteer with one of the many conservation organizations, or work in
the eco-tourism industry of Costa Rica.
L.V. - BSC GEN BIOL, BPHE SPF
This fall I'll be attending York University's Teacher's College
program in the Intermediate/Senior stream. I hope to eventually teach
Outdoor Ed and History. I would also love to coach various teams at the
high school level and in more competitive streams in the community.
S.M. - BAH MAJ HIST, BPHE SSP
In the fall of 2008 I will begin a Master's degree in Health Psychology at the University of Western Ontario with Dr. Harry Prapavessis.
My area of research will be specifically working with special
populations to increase their level of physical activity. I look forward
to working with people in the future to help them make effective
long-term health behaviour changes!
A.J.W. - BAH MAJ PSYC, BPHE SPF
This fall, I will be returning to Queen's University for Teacher's College for the Intermediate/Senior level.
I intend on teaching Biology and Physical and Health Education at the
High School level in the near future and I am incredibly excited to
begin the program. My undergraduate degree has provided me with the
knowledge, confidence and necessary skills I will need to achieve my
future goals as a teacher.
A.R.D. - BSC GEN BIOL, BPHE SSP
This fall I will be attending Schulich School of Medicine
at the University of Western Ontario. Currently I am planning on
working towards becoming a family physician although I am not entirely
certain about this yet.
A.P.M. - BSC GEN LISC, BPHE SPF
This fall I will begin a Master's degree in Public Health (MPH)
at the University of British Columbia. I hope to pursue interests in
health promotion activities and HIV/AIDS disease prevention.
C.N.S. - BSC GEN BIOL, BPHE SPF
In September, I will be attending the Richard Ivey School of Business
at the University of Western Ontario where I will recieve an Honours in
Business Administration. I hope to ultimately pursue a career in
business consulting in the health sciences stream.

This September I will enter the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine where I will begin an exciting career as a naturopath.
