"Oh the directions they go!" Read about the career plans of our Health Studies students as submitted by them at the time of their graduation.
Note: In 2008-09, four HLTH graduates from Spring 2008 returned to Queen's as follows: one student entered a MA in Kinesiology & Studies; one student entered a Masters in Public Administration; one student entered a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning; and, one student returned to pursue post-degree course work.
I am commencing in Spring 2008 with a BA(H) Health Studies/ BSc Life Science degree. This summer I am working at the Mclaughlin-Rotman Centre for Global Health at the MaRS Institute in Toronto and next year I will be in Japan teaching English with the JET
program. Afterwards I intend to complete either an MPA with a
concentration on European Studies or an MA in International Relations.
M.K. - BSC GEN LISC, BAH MAJ HLTH
I will be doing a two-year accelerated BSc in Nursing at the University of Toronto now that I am done my BAH in Health Studies. I hope to pursue nurse education as a career path.
K.R. - BAH MAJ HLTH
Over the next 3 years I
will be kayaking and backpacking in South America, and then teaching
English in South Korea, and hopefully doing a CIDA
internship in Africa working with HIV/AIDS education and prevention. I
plan on getting some more volunteer experience before going back to do a
Master's in Public Health, or perhaps my Master's in Business
Administration.
E.N.V. - BAH MJM HLTH HIST
Over the next year I
hope to gain valuable experiences travelling Europe and Austrailia and
volunteering in a various health care settings. In Fall 2009 I plan to
enroll in a condensed BSc nursing program.
H.B. - BAH MJM HLTH PSYC
This summer, I am taking
a break from school and am living in Banff, Alberta working at the
Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and also volunteering at AIDS Bow Valley.
I plan on spending the majority of the upcoming year gaining relevant
experience with hopes of pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Health in
the near future.
A.C. - BAH MAJ HLTH
After classes finished, I began working at EDS Canada
processing health insurance claim forms. Overworked, underpaid, and
very bored, I realised just how much I love learning and university
life. I made a last minute application to grad school, and the day after
graduation I found out that I was accepted into a Masters of Public Health programme at Imperial College, London, England.
K.S.H. - BAH MAJ HLTH
I am currently working with the International Tobacco Control Policy Evauation Project at the University of Waterloo for the summer as a research assistant. In the fall I will be returning to Queen's to start a Master of Urban and Regional Planning with which I hope work to make the environment in which we live conducive to health and physical activity.
K.L.P. - BAH MAJ HLTH
I am currently working with the ThinkFirst
Kingston Chapter educating youth in Kingston about brain and spinal
cord injury prevention. In the fall, I will be returning to Queen's to
complete a one year Master's of Public Administration with a concentration in Health Policy. In the future I hope to continue on with a career in Health Policy.
