Health Studies 2012

"Oh the directions they go." Read about the career plans of our HLTH students as submitted by them at the time of their graduation.

After graduating from Queen’s, I will be returning home to the US where I will be attending Dental School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Upon receiving my DDS degree, I plan to specialize in dental public health. Ultimately, I hope to practice as a general dentist as well as work in oral health policy and program management. V.O. - BAH MJM HLTH LISC

I will be moving back to Saskatchewan to work full-time in Health, Safety and the Environment for the mining company BHP Billiton at the same time as pursuing a Masters's in Public Health (part-time studies) at the University of Saskatchewan. H.R. - BAH MAJ HLTH

After graduating with an Honours Major in Health Studies, I will be pursuing a Masters Degree in Child Study and Education at the renowned Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study (University of Toronto).  The evidence-based research skills that I have acquired from my degree have combined with my passion for teaching children.  Together, they have focused me on innovative ways to make a maximal difference in the lives of children, as a teacher and researcher.  S.A. - BAH MAJ HLTH

As a Health Studies graduate who has a Psychology minor, I enjoyed my time at Queen's in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies immensely.  I am now heading to the United States to start my M.Sc. in Occupational Therapy at D'Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y.  I'm looking forward to a career that will allow me to combine my interests in both Health and Psychology. B.H. - BAH MJM HLTH PSYC

Upon graduating with a B.A. Honours Medial in Health Studies and Psychology from Queen's I will be moving to Vancouver to pursue a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Adler School of Professional Psychology.  My unique degree from Queen's has allowed me to marry my interests in both psychology and critical sociological analysis, which compliment the Adlerian pillars of holsim, social justice and social responsibility.  After completing my degree at Adler, I hope to start a career in counselling psychology.  K.C. - BAH MED HLTH PSYC

Now that I have completed my B.A. Honours, I will attend the final year of Concurrent Education at the Queen's Faculty of Education in September.  Upon completion of my Bachelor of Education, I plan to teach and travel abroad.  I hope to share what I have learned as a Health Studies Major to students that I teach in the future.  A.M. - BAH MAJ HLTH.

Upon completion of my BAH in Health Studies, I decided to take a break from schooling and will spend the year working to gain funds to travel and volunteer abroad.  I plan to pursue further education in the Fall of 2013, however I am unsure which route I will choose.  Currently, I am considering Masters degrees in Health promotion, Health Administration, and Business Administration, as well as college post-graduate programs such as Project Management and Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion.  Eventually, I would like to manage health promotion projects, whether that be in the public or private sector.  E.D. - BAH MAJ HLTH

Next year I will be going to the University of Western Ontario for Occupational Therapy (MScOT).  I am not sure where I would ultimately like to end up (geographically speaking), but I hope to be working as an Occupational Therapist with people with disabilities in a school, home or workplace environment.  R.D. - BAH MJM PSYC HLTH

It is sad to leave my Health Studies Major behind, but at least I do not have to leave Queen's.  I will be returning in the Fall, but this time to the Faculty of Law.  I plan on continuing to use the skills that Health Studies has taught me by doing policy work after I complete my J.D.  M.R. - BAH MAJ HLTH

Upon completion of my Health Studies Honours degree, I have decided to continue my studies at Queen's University in the Master of Physical Therapy program.  I strongly feel that the education gained from my undergraduate degree in Health Studies will aid in understanding aspects of health beyond what I will be learning in rehabilitation; a beneficial quality that will assist me in my upcoming career as a physiotherapist.  T.D.M. - BAH MAJ HLTH

After graduating with an Honours degree in Health Studies, I will move on to study medicine this fall at St. James School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.  Having started at Queen's in the Kinesiology and Phys Ed program, I cam away with a broad sense of what health entails, and a true passion to improve health at many levels.  R.L. - BAH MAJ HLTH

Following graduation, I plan on taking a gap year to explore graduate school options and put together a strong application.  During this year, I'll also be working at an Audiology Clinic where I hope to gain further transferable skills for my future career in a health-related field.  J.A. - BAH MJM HLTH PSYC
