Kinesiology End Notes 2014

"Oh the directions they go!" Read about the career plans of Kinesiology students as submitted by them at the time of graduation.

I will be attending Memorial University in St. John's Newfoundland in September to begin my Master's in Applied Health Sciences Research.  This two-year M.Sc. program is through the Faculty of Medicine and conducted in collaboration at other sites across Atlantic Canada where the courses are taught by professors through online conferences.  I hope to gain the skills to help improve the health services we deliver to the Canadian population today through research policy inititiatives.  V.L. - BSCH SSP KINE

In the Fall, I will be pursuing a Doctor of Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto!  I am very excited to use and build upon the knowledge and skills that I have acquired through Queen's School of Kinesiology and Health Studies as I continue to work towards a career as a health care professional.  P.B. - BSCH SSP KINE

After graduating from Queen's Kinesiology program, I'm very excited to begin a Master in Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta.  In the near future, I hope to pursue a career in manual therapy.  The end goal (and dream) is to open a joint clinic with my sister, a medical student, that promotes ongling health, funtioning and mobility in as many ways possible.   C.D. - BSCH SSP KINE

Upon graduating from the Kinesiology program, I immediately began applying my education working as a physiotherapist aid and kinesiologist in a private physiotherapy clinic in British Columbia.  However, I will be returning to Queen's in the fall to pursue a Master of Science in Physical Therapy, a decision I came to after gratefully receiving a $15,000 Ontario Graduate Scholarship for this program.  In addition, I will be presenting my undergraduate thesis research, done in the Biomechanics and Ergonomics Lab, at the World Congress of Biomechanics this summer in Boston.  I feel my kinesiology undergraduate degree granted great opportunities to learn and grow in both applied health practice and research, and has provided me with a firm foundation upon which to build an ever-evolving and successful future.   H.G. - BSCH SSP KINE

This fall I will be attending Centennial College to obtain a graduate certificate in Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion, in preparation for an application to a Masters of Public Health.  The wide variety of courses offered at Queen's allowed me to broaden my knowledge base and realize my passion for health promotion.  I hope to one day be implementing policies to inspire others to lead healthy lives!   H.M. - BSCH SSP KINE

Following commencement from the Kinesiology program, I will be extending my time at Queen's University to obtain my Masters of Science in Physical Therapy.  I also plan to write my entry-to-practice examination within the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario in hopes of becoming a registered kinesiologist.  Overall, obtaining this undergraduate degree has provided me with a framework for future success and experiences I will never forget.    M.O. - BSCH SSP KINE

Next year I am coming back to Queen's to go to Medical School - thanks for all the preparation and help Queen's PHE/KIN has given me!  M.L. - BSCH SSP KINE

After graduation, I will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSCN) at Western University.  Western's Compressed Time Frame program is nineteen months long and will quality me to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam.  I am sure the knowledge and experience that I gained during my time at the SKHS at Queen's will be a great asset to me in this health profession.   A.D. - BSCH SSP KIN

In the Fall of 2014, I'm starting a Masters of Science degree with Dr. Steven Fischer in the Biomechanics Ergonomics Lab at Queen's Univiersity where I'm hoping to explore the causes and treatment of lower-back pain.  One day I hope to pursue a caree in Medicine, but who knows, perhaps underwater basketweaving or full contact origamie are in the future?!    P.S. - BSCH SSP KINE

This upcoming Fall, I will be entering my first year of my Masters in Physical Therapy here at Queen's University.  Once I am a physiotherapist, my dream has always been to work in a rehabilitation center with individuals who have spinal cord injuries.  However, I am going to keep an open mind throught the PT program as to what I want to do/specialize in as a physiotherapist.   N.V. - BSCH SSP KINE

I chose to complete a General B.Sc. after realizing that my interests lie outside the realm of Kinesiology.  Nevertheless, the skills I developed through the rigours of the Kinesiology program have already served me well.  After taking time off from academics to work and travel, I intend to return to University to pursue a second undergraduate degree.  This time I will be following my interest in environmental science and the construction industry to a degree in Engineering.  L.G. - BSC GEN KINE
